    1. I genuinely loved this course and found it both practical and refreshing. The content was meaningful, easy to connect to my own classroom, and full of ideas I can implement immediately. Honestly, I wouldn’t change anything about it, the structure, pacing, and discussion prompts all supported real reflection and growth. I would absolutely recommend this book study to a colleague, along with the others in the series. Each one has helped me think more deeply about my teaching practices and has given me concrete strategies to support my students more effectively.

  2. I enjoyed reading the book. There were items that i completely agreed with, but then there were times that you could tell the book was written 10 years ago. A lot still applies but the after Covid, some things have changed with our students. I do like the Ted Talks mixed in with the chapters. And i think you do a good job of giving us thoughtful blog questions.

  3. I enjoyed this book and the perspectives in it. I like that some of what is discussed confirms some of the things I've already been doing that are not necessarily "traditional" methods. I will absolutely recommend it to friends and colleagues.

  4. I really enjoyed this book as it brought several points to ponder going forward in my classroom. I love how it made everything individualized to each student and met their needs as learners. It also really focused on assessment of TRUE student knowledge in any given content.

  5. I liked this course a lot. The book had a bunch of ideas that just made sense, and it gave me a different perspective on grading and what learning should look like. I also liked that the course was self paced, and I thought the TED Talks and blog posts were a good mix and kept me reflecting instead of just checking a box.

I didn’t really have any major dislikes, other than a few parts feeling a little repetitive.

Yes, I would recommend this book study to a colleague, and I would sign up for another one.

  8. I enjoyed this book. Although some of it is difficult to implement in my self-contained classroom, I am walking away with a different perspective on grading that I can modify/accommodate to meet the needs of my students. I enjoy the self-paced book studies where I can do this on my own time without major deadlines.

  10. The course was interesting and it did push me to think out of the box. I am not certain that I will incorporate all of the ideas in the book, but there are some that really expanded my thinking. I do wonder if we are sometimes accommodating a bit excessively. I am all in favor of giving students a leg up and helping everyone succeed. But I have seen some of my brighter students reign in their efforts as they feel it doesn't matter if they really give it their best. (Some have told me that they would rather have a look at the test, then come back in for a retake, rather than put the effort in for the first attempt.) I have to give some consideration to all students in my classes and making sure that all are feeling inspired and challenged - and how much extra work that I want to put on myself creating retakes! I do think that the idea of projects is a lot more fun and engaging for some students. I also go back and forth thinking about the age old story - well, when I was a kid, we didn't get all this special help! I know that we can't just fall back on that, but are we letting kids slide by lowering expectations? Should they not be learning to write some responses to a certain degree? It is difficult to find a consistent method that benefits all students.
I do enjoy reading these books and being able to work through the content at my own pace! I am glad that I chose to read this book, as I might not have considered some of these options otherwise.

  12. I really enjoyed this book and course! I wasn't sure I was going to be able to apply much of it to my classroom because I teach really young kids but that was not the case. I loved how there were so many specific examples of things we could impliment in our classroom. Lots of visual learning which is the best way I learn. I have already suggested my co-worker take this class as I really found it beneficial.

  16. I enjoyed the TED talk videos. I also enjoyed the various charts to incorporate when grading. I think the forms are extremely helpful and add the student's voice to the classroom. I also liked that this book challenged me to think about grading differently and from multiple views. I have already shared that this book study was a good one with others!

  17. I enjoyed very many of the ideas in the book and the course. I teach at a Hutterite Colony school, so many of the concepts apply differently to my classroom situation. Some of the ideas presented are things I currently do, others I will consider as a way to improve the classroom experience.
